To celebrate our 25th Anniversary, we featured four homeowners whose homes received repairs and safety modifications, and one nonprofit facility, as part of Rebuilding Day on April 22, 2017. Your generous support allowed life-changing work to happen right here in our community. Read below to see how you made a difference.
Your contributions helped us install half-steps, which make life easier for people with limited mobility, like Ty. Her bad knees make her dependent on a walker and these steps allow her to safely enter and exit her home. Volunteers also repaired the damaged skirting around Ty’s home and painted the exterior, transforming her house from an eyesore to a source of pride in the neighborhood.
After being taken advantage of by several contractors who took Edward’s money and left home repairs unfinished, your donations allowed Rebuilding Together to transform Edward’s home into a safe, functional space by installing new cabinets and a hood vent in the kitchen, repairing basement windows to make them secure, painting the home’s exterior, repairing the fence and gutters, and installing a dryer vent.
Juan had always performed his own home repairs, but stage IV stomach cancer renders him unable to do so. He was delighted to receive a new dishwasher and garbage disposal, grab bars and a raised toilet seat in the bathroom, a painted exterior, debris removal and landscaping and electrical repairs, all of which will allow him to live safely and have pride in his home.
Your dollars made life-changing repairs possible for Gerry, who has lived alone in his home for 43 years even though he is deaf and legally blind. With the tangle of old, unsafe electrical wires and cords repaired and replaced to code, a new railing installed on the front porch and steps, the sliding and back doors repaired so that they easily open and lock securely, damaged and missing floor heat registers replaced and a new refrigerator installed, Gerry is able to live safely and continue his independent living. By painting the exterior, replacing damaged skirting all around the home and installing a new shed, Gerry also has pride in his home.
LifeMoves provides interim housing and supportive services that create opportunities for homeless families and individuals to rapidly return to stable housing and long-term self-sufficiency. Your donations helped to replace an unsafe and rotten deck and walkway, making it possible for their clients to enjoy the outdoors safely. A fresh coat of paint inside brightened the common space for all the residents to enjoy.
