Last Thursday, our Safe at Home volunteer team worked on not one, but TWO homes in Morgan Hill. These projects needed all the help possible so the job could be completed in just one day, and we also had 2 new volunteers join our team. While a few finishing touches had to be applied on Friday, the team was able to finish the majority of the tasks on Thursday.
Emilio and Amalia are 84 and 75, respectively. Emilio used to get very dizzy and unstable, and as a result, suffered a few falls. Since recently receiving a pacemaker, he has been much steadier. Even so, both he and his wife have lessened mobility, especially getting into the shower and in and out of their home. Our installations of grab bars and half steps make those transitions much easier.
Federico and Olga are in their late 70s, and as is common with our elderly neighbors, have limited mobility, and their homes are not equipped to help them overcome everyday challenges. Alongside grab bars and half steps at their home, our volunteers installed raised toilets, and a number of new light fixtures. Before, many areas of the home were not well lit. Safety hazards, such as tripping and falling, are a concern so we want to reduce or eliminate those possibilities.
As always, we want to thank all of our volunteers for their time, hard work, and dedication to Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley and also to the needy homeowners throughout our community. We are always excited for new volunteers to join our team, so if you are interested, please contact us at: [email protected], or (408) 578-9519!
